Day of Sopa Mondena
After two weeks of intensive Spanish language immersion and at the request of the group to celebrate his last day with us, we have moved to the village of Monda to mark the day of the Sopa Mondena.
The village was full of mondeños and locals from surrounding villages who did not want to miss this celebration.
The principal place of congregation is the square were the church is located. It was full of people. Everyone enjoyed music and his bowl of soup with family and friends.
The star ingredient in the sopa mondena is bread. This soup is to make a sauce with garlic, peppers and tomatoes. Then water is added and you poach eggs. Then in the dornillo (a casserole bowl) the cateto bread is chopped and the content of sauce poured into the bowl.
In every corner of the village the same recipe is cooked, creating a warm and fun atmosphere.
The group had a blast dancing to the music and singing songs of the bands hired by the council. A very healthy and fun atmosphere was breathed. They met a group of mondeños who did not hesitate to speak Spanish with them.
After listening to several songs in Spanish, we turn to find a terrace in a quiet place to talk with the group about this experience. We were really interested in knowing their impressions about this celebration and also about their stay with Turilang during 2 weeks. We also remembered the content learned during the tour made to Monda last week.
